Hi everyone! Sorry for being so absent last month. I’ve just finished the last of my coursework for my MA program, which means all I’ve got left is my final exams…and my entire dissertation. So, nowhere near done, but one major milestone under my belt!

I’m also happy to announce that I am officially working my first two jobs in publishing! I’ve been hired by a literary magazine to help edit and review pieces (I can’t say which one, as it’s an anonymous site), and I’m also working for a bookshop in the city I’ve moved to! This means that I’m doing even more reading and writing than ever, so I have PLENTY to talk about on here. My TBR is extremely long, and will probably never be accomplished– during my interview at the bookshop, I’m very proud to say that I only left with ONE new book, when I was eyeing at least five on the shelves. Regardless, I am happy, well-read, and now have a source of income. Hooray!

In writing news, my advisor has FINALLY lifted my month-long ban from editing my book. After I finished my draft, he suggested I take some time off until I could feel dispassionate again, which, while it may sound harsh, is actually something I really appreciate. The best writing advice I’ve ever received, from a professor at my undergrad, is to “kill your darlings”: if you love something in your book so much that it derails the rest of the plot, you need to cut it out, or it’ll drain the life from everything else. So, I’ll be starting that process very soon which, while it’s sure to be painful, I know will be very, very rewarding.

That’s everything for now! Since I have some more free time, as both of my roles are part-time and I’m not actively attending classes, I should be posting more on here. I hope y’all are excited! Stay tuned, and keep reading!
